Who is affected by the FACT Act?

On Behalf of | Dec 7, 2015 | Asbestos Law

The so-called Furthering Asbestos Claim Transparency (FACT) Act is a bill created by and for the companies within the asbestos industry. The bill is financially backed by the makers of asbestos products that continue to destroy the lives of thousands of innocent individuals each year, and their lobbyists. The fact is that the FACT Act does everything to help the asbestos industry, and nothing to help victims of asbestos exposure.

Veterans

Veterans are some of those most affected by asbestos exposure. One in three mesothelioma victims are reported to be veterans, due to past exposure during their time of service. The FACT Act will require veterans to provide their personal information (including partial social security numbers) on a public database for anyone to access.

Workers

Workers in many trades have been the victims of prolonged asbestos exposure, which has caused mesothelioma, asbestosis, lung cancer, and other respiratory conditions among them. Workers who file claims against those responsible for their asbestos-related diseases much often wait for long periods of time to receive the justice they deserve. The FACT Act will delay their justice even longer.

Family Members of Victims

It is not only those who have been directly exposed to asbestos who will suffer the FACT Act’s consequences. The family members of veterans and workers will also be required to provide their private and confidential information on a public database, putting them at risk for identity theft and fraud.

How Can You Help?
