It is no secret that asbestos companies have covered up the dangers of asbestos exposure for decades. To this day, the asbestos industry still defends the use of asbestos in North America and overseas. It is not currently banned in the United States.
The so-called FACT (Furthering Asbestos Claims Transparency) Act, which continues to make its way through Congress, is a serious threat to the privacy and justice of asbestos exposure victims. While the bill is opposed by numerous veterans groups, it is both supported and funded by asbestos lobbyists.
Filing a lawsuit against an asbestos company is not always an option. Around 60 asbestos companies have filed for bankruptcy and set up trusts to help them deal with the number of individuals who have been affected by their products.
