4 Occupations at High Risk for Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos victims endure a lot of pain and suffering. Unfortunately, the signs and symptoms of their asbestos-related illnesses can show up when it’s already too late.

However, some are more likely to work in hazardous environments where asbestos dwells, like manual labor jobs. Even if it’s mild, breathing in any amount is unsafe and can cause life-long health problems.

Jobs with high exposure rates

Construction, auto, and factory workers are some that often come to mind. Here are a few others you may not immediately think of:

  • Shipyard workers: Much of the paneling, pipe coverings, and adhesives used to build ships carry dangerous amounts of asbestos. There were some cases where people sprayed asbestos insulation on vessels. Not only does that harm ship workers, but passengers and crew members as well.
  • Navy veterans: Navy members have the highest cases of mesothelioma out of any military branch. Much like shipyard workers, Navy personnel can be in frequent contact with asbestos due to the exposure they endure on board their vessels.
  • Boilermakers: These workers maintain, assemble, and install boilers, which can hold a variety of hot liquids and gases. Since asbestos is resistant to heat and fire, it’s often used to prevent leaking and fire hazards. Unfortunately, that’s why many boilermakers end up with cancer and other related illnesses later in life.
  • Miners: Miners are no stranger to asbestos exposure. That’s especially true for coal miners, as asbestos can exist in dark and dusty underground environments.

Victims don’t have to sit in silence

Asbestos and asbestos-related illnesses have ruined the lives of countless Americans. But while they may suffer, they can get the compensation they deserve. They can do so with the help of a diligent, aggressive, and trusted legal partner.
