Aspirin Found to Help Fight Mesothelioma

If you are a worker at risk for asbestos exposure on the job, taking aspirin might help to prevent mesothelioma from developing within your body. Researchers recently revealed that the over-the-counter medication inhibits inflammation that occurs before mesothelioma fully forms.

Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that can develop after an individual is exposed to asbestos fibers. For many different workers, including firefighters, plumbers, and more, exposure can occur at work for prolonged periods of time. After asbestos fibers are breathed in by a worker, they can become trapped within the lungs and other organs. The immune system will work to remove the fibers from the lungs, sparking an inflammatory process that can eventually lead to mesothelioma.

This discovery is good for those affected by asbestos exposure, but we believe that the only way to eliminate the mesothelioma epidemic in our country is by banning asbestos use completely. Today, asbestos is still legal and lethal in the United States, and mesothelioma kills around 3,200 individuals each year.

If you work in a trade that is at risk for asbestos exposure on the job, it is advised that you alert your doctor today. They can determine if aspirin will help you fight the development of mesothelioma.
