Talking to Your Doctor about Asbestos Exposure

by | Mar 23, 2015 | Asbestos Exposure

Talking to your doctor about any past asbestos exposure is very important. It is not uncommon that the symptoms of asbestos-related diseases are mistaken for other respiratory conditions, and without the proper work and exposure history, your doctor may not detect symptoms before it is too late.

An asbestos-related disease, like mesothelioma, can take anywhere from ten to seventy years before its symptoms arise in an exposure victim. Exposure often happens to the blue-collar workers of many trades while on the job. Catching the disease early is the key to living a longer and healthier life with mesothelioma. This is why discussing the possibility of past asbestos exposure is important.

Even if your healthcare professional does not specialize in mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease, they will be able to recommend you to one that does.

If you do not currently see a doctor on a regular basis and feel you are experiencing symptoms of an asbestos-related disease, we have provided a list of medical centers throughout the United States that are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma, asbestosis, and other asbestos-related diseases on our website. This list is not meant to be all-inclusive but is a good start for you and your family to consider in your search.
