New Asbestos Law for Illinois Home Sellers

Some homeowners spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a new home, only to find out that it requires the abatement of deadly asbestos fibers.

Luckily, for Illinois residents looking to buy a home, sellers are now required by law to disclose any damages to the windows, doors, and floors, including asbestos contamination in any of these or other places in the home.

Asbestos is commonly found in homes built before 1990. See our Asbestos in the Home page to find out more about where it could be hiding in your house.

This is great. Now home owners will know what to expect when they buy a new house. If that house is something that you love but fear that the presence of asbestos will endanger your health and your family's, don't hesitate to contact a licensed asbestos specialist. They can conduct a site inspection to let you know how much asbestos is present in the house, where it is located, and what needs to be done in order to protect everyone from contamination. Never do the repairs or removal yourself as asbestos if highly friable and a simple crunch can send millions of fibers in to the air.
