Caregiving can be tough, especially when the holidays come around. On top of traveling, traditions, shopping, and more, caring for a mesothelioma patient could begin to wear you out. We have a few tips for caring for a loved one with an asbestos-related disease, such as mesothelioma, during this busy season:
Care for Yourself, Too
Don't forget about your own needs during these winter months. Keeping a steady exercise routine, a balanced diet, and getting some sunshine will keep your stress low and your energy high. Aromatherapy, a hot bath, or some soothing music might relax you at the end of a long day.
If you are caring for a loved one with mesothelioma, you might be considering cutting down on some of the holiday traditions you have celebrated for all those years. Less work means less stress for all. Swap out some new traditions for the old. Try playing a board or card game or watching a holiday film with your loved one this year.
Last minute dinners, get-togethers, and other events can result in disaster. Plan meals, grocery shop, and cook ahead of time. There are many holiday sides and entrees that freeze well until the whole family arrives. Less to do on the day of the event means less stress as a guest and a host.
