Asbestos-Related Lung Cancer Awareness

Did you know that, aside from mesothelioma, asbestos can cause lung cancer? In many patients, asbestos-caused lung cancer has been known to develop even in the absence of other cancer-causing agents.

While exposure to asbestos is all it can take for lung cancer to develop within an individual, smoking tobacco can exponentially increase that risk. A synergetic relationship exists between the two substances, and they both work together to cause the cancer. The higher the degree of asbestos exposure and amount of cigarette smoking raises a person's risk for diagnosis.

Like other asbestos-related diseases, lung cancer can develop with little or no symptoms. The methods used to diagnose asbestos lung cancer include imaging tests, biopsies, and taking phlegm (spit) samples.

If you or a loved one has been exposed to asbestos, it would be wise to let your doctor know so they can monitor your health for signs of the disease.

Unfortunately, many workers and their families have been exposed to the substance in the past and / or smoke to this day. We believe that spreading asbestos lung cancer awareness will better inform individuals about the dangers of exposure.

Ban Asbestos. Cure Cancer. Spread Awareness.
