Remembering our Veterans on Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, we would like to take some time to recognize all of our United States veterans and the dangerous situations they have all been through. Every branch of the military fought under tough conditions - on land, sea, and as well as in the air. Memorial Day gives us the chance to acknowledge all of the soldiers that gave their lives for our country.

Many people do not know that mesothelioma has been one of the biggest killers of our veterans. Asbestos was use extensively within military products throughout the twentieth century and as a result, many soldiers were exposed to the substance. It is estimated that three out of every ten mesothelioma patients in the United States are veterans.

Asbestos exposure is the known cause of mesothelioma, a painful and fatal cancer that can develop within the lungs, chest, and abdomen of the human body. Exposure can take place anywhere from ten to fifty years before the symptoms of the disease occur, making our vets' past exposure a serious risk to their health in the present day.

If you have served in the military in the past, there is a good chance an asbestos-related disease like mesothelioma could be developing within your body. Whether you worked in the Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard; all military personnel should consider that they have been at high-risk for asbestos exposure during their service.

If you are diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, you might be eligible for compensation from those responsible for your exposure. The U.S. Military is not responsible for your exposure, but there are manufacturers and companies out there who knew of the dangers of exposure.
