Debate Continues On the Ban Asbestos Act

House of Representatives Has Opportunity to Strengthen S. 742

February 14, 2008 - The U.S. House of Representatives will hold hearings on February 28 to discuss asbestos, and consider the House version of the "Ban Asbestos in America Act of 2007" recently passed by the U.S. Senate. Many advocates for asbestos victims were pleased to see Senate action on the bill, but were disappointed when last minute changes by industry watered down the proposed bill and actually created less than a total ban on asbestos. The House hearings will give another opportunity to strengthen the provisions of the act. The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization is spearheading a petition drive supporting a total ban on asbestos.
