The Senate passed the Asbestos Awareness Day Resolution (RES108) designating the first week of April as "National Asbestos Awareness Week." ADAO, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving as the voice of asbestos victims, first proposed the resolution in 2004. The resolution was sponsored by Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana) with the support and cosponsorship of Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Illinois), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Georgia), Sen. Edward Kenedy (D-Massachusetts), Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), Sen. Patty Murray (D-Washington), Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana).
"The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization applauds the U.S. Senate and the bi-partisan cosponsors for the passage of this resolution. We cannot bring those back we've lost from exposure to this deadly substance, but we can ensure that our loved ones are not affected by asbestos in the future," said Linda Reinstein, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO). For this year, Annual Asbestos Awareness Day is set for Tuesday, April 1, 2008. To start the week off, Mrs. Reinstein, executive director and co-founder of ADAO, will present ADAO's 4th Annual Asbestos Awareness Day Conference, March 28-29, with a remembrance service on Sunday, March 30. For more information on this event, vist the ADAO web site.
